MA project – Hanging by a Thread

Whilst studying an MA in Contemporary Craft at Hereford College of Arts, my work has led to research in sustainability theories and current positive solutions offered including circular and regenerative design models, material recycling, bio-materials and biomimicry.

Alongside this research I have also considered my own ethos and values as a maker; reading around theories of why we make and the positive benefits of exploring creativity and the haptic qualities of working with our hands.

In this body of work, I aim to explore nature and the fragility of the planet as a central discourse, with particular focus on the nutrient cycle. Considering the phases of growth, death, decay into regeneration and new life,

I wish to celebrate the innate beauty of nature, its strength and ingenuity and consider how, working more symbiotically with nature, may hold the key to regain environmental balance and a sustainable future.
